DATA’s First Ecosystem Application Antube will be Launched on Kakao’s Cryptocurrency Wallet Klip
South Korean messaging giant Kakao has announced plans to release its cryptocurrency wallet ‘Klip’ within the year. The firm posted a teaser page to the “More” tab in its KakaoTalk app on August 12. Kakao said it plans to introduce a full service this year.
Developed by Kakao’s blockchain affiliate GroundX, Klip will be a digital wallet that manages user information and digital assets. It will support Klay, the native token of Klaytn, and related tokens based on Klaytn.
In an echo of Facebook’s Libra project, Kakao also said that it will be possible to use Klip through KakaoTalk without installing other apps. Kakao said it aims to improve accessibility by making Klips available directly from the KakaoTalk ‘More’ tab. It aims to boost adoption of blockchain technology by letting its 50 million KakaoTalk users organically encounter Klaytn-based services through Klip.
South Korea is the world’s largest country with the highest blockchain penetration and participation, while Kakao has a 96% market share in the Korean mobile market, with nearly 50 million active, authentic, high-quality users. Kakao’s business involves communications, games, content services, financial services and mobile services. Its communication application KakaoTalk is called the “Korean version of WeChat.”
In December 2018, DATA and Kakao GroundX officially cooperated to incubate the first blockchain application of DATA ecosystem, Antube, and officially released the alpha version on January 1, 2019, which has accumulated nearly 500,000 users at present.
